Saad Mhazras
Born in the mountainous village of Chenini, Saad Mhazras is a self-taught visual artist whose passion for color and brushwork has made him one of the leading figures in contemporary art in Tataouine. Unlike many of his peers, he did not pursue academic training at fine arts institutes or study artistic theories at university. Since the 1980s, he has charted a unique artistic path, making his own paintings from mountainous plants in his region and making his brushes with palm fibers harvested near his village.
In his gallery, Nasamo-Samo, he exhibits paintings that embody the beauty and mystery of the desert, mixing classical and contemporary artistic styles. His distinctive approach captures the mountains and Gsour of Tataouine in a captivating play of color and light, creating a universe of his own. Through his ingenuity and deep connection to his environment, Saad developed an original visual language, transforming local natural materials into profound artistic expressions.
